Temperance is the card associated with Sagittarius according to the astrological correspondences outlined by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Along with The Hierophant, Temperance is one of The People of Wisdom who tend the Ecosystem of Knowledge in the Climate of Contemplation in my own tarot language.
The word wisdom is derived from wis (adj.) + dom. According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, wis is derived from the ‘PIE root *weid- "to see" (hence "to know"),’ and dom is a suffix of state from the Old English -dom meaning "statute, judgment.” Judg(e)ment is derived from judge (v.):
from Latin iudicare "to judge, to examine officially; form an opinion upon; pronounce judgment," from iudicem (nominative iudex) "a judge," a compound of ius "right, law" (see just (adj.)) + root of dicere "to say" (from PIE root *deik- "to show," also "pronounce solemnly").
The People of Wisdom are those who see, who say, and who show. They tend the terrain of what it means to know.
In my most recent Moon Report, I explained that The Hierophant’s sacred task is to discover, and Temperance’s sacred task is to harmonize. Discovery prompts new perception and changes what is known. To harmonize is to join, to fit pieces together, to come into agreement.
Here, at the full moon in the Ecosystem of Knowledge, The People of Wisdom ask: Might the disruption of discovery be a necessary ingredient to alchemize harmony?
Until next time,
sara
Ooohhh yeah! Love this!
